SAFETY QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“When Safety Becomes A Habit, Success Becomes The Result”
SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH | PROJECT UPDATES |
Back injuries are common but preventable. Before lifting, check the load — if it’s too heavy or awkward, ask for help or use equipment. Bend your knees, keep your back straight, and lift with your legs, not your waist. Hold items close to your body and avoid twisting. Taking a few extra seconds to lift safely can prevent long-term back injuries. Remember: proper lifting protects not only your back but also keeps your crew productive and injury-free. Every lift counts — take your time and do it right, your body will thank you later.
| DSM completed the Milling and Paving on Newark Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock, stretching from Route 23 South to Jacksonville Road — a total of 1.7 miles of brand-new roadway. The project also included completely New ADA Ramps, Reconstructed catch basins, and Rebuilt Manholes, giving the entire stretch a fresh and upgraded look. We want to thank everyone who put a personal hand of safety into this project — from the Paving and Milling crews to the Concrete Crew. Your commitment to working safely and efficiently made this job a true success from start to finish. |
SAFETY HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH | GIFT CARD WINNERS |
This month’s highlight goes to all DSM field crews for maintaining an incident-free record while completing the Newark Pompton Turnpike project and continuing ADA ramp reconstruction work. Despite tight deadlines and high-traffic environments, crews stayed consistent with PPE compliance, proper equipment checks, and organized work-zone layouts. The strong communication and teamwork focus shown throughout September reflect how DSM continues to build a culture where safety and quality work hand in hand when everyone takes ownership of their role. Excellent job to everyone for keeping each job safe site safe, organized, and professional. | Oscar Zuniga from the Paving Crew, who maintained strong focus and safety discipline during long Milling and Paving operations. Oscar continued to set the standard for PPE use, awareness around Heavy Machinery, and teamwork on-site, helping the crew complete each task safely and efficiently.
Ishmael Ojeda from the ADA Ramp Crew, who consistently demonstrated excellent PPE compliance and attention to detail throughout September. Ishmael showed great communication and awareness while working near active roadways and helped maintain clean, organized work zones during Concrete Pours and Restoration Work. |
